13 February 2011 - STUDENTS interested in pursuing a British degree in nursing can soon do so locally, with a recent memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by Sime Darby Nursing and Health Sciences College and the University of Hertfordshire (UoH), United Kingdom.
The full-time Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Contemporary Nursing is scheduled to commence in January 2012.
The programme is intended for those who have obtained the Diploma in Nursing and wish to further their studies in the field.
“We are proud to be working with the University of Hertfordshire to facilitate student progression to the university’s contemporary nursing degree programme after completion of requisite qualifications,” said Sime Darby Healthcare Division managing director Raja Azlan Raja Azwa.
UoH deputy dean of the Faculty of Health and Human Services Dr Lyn Karstadt signed the MoU on behalf of the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work.
Sime Darby Nursing and Health Sciences College chief executive Shanaz Mawji said the MoU was one of the college’s initiatives in developing new opportunities for undergraduates.
The degree course is delivered and assessed by way of assignments by UoH faculty staff.
Students will have access to online tutorial support, extensive online collections of information resources, as well as digital and print collections in the college.
Shanaz said, “By linking theory with professional practice, we make sure that the new generation of nurses leave our college armed with the cutting-edge knowledge in their discipline.”
Also present to witness the ceremony was UoH regional director (South-East Asia) Dr John Beamish.
